IronPigs Beat Bats In Extras; Rain For Today's Game

The IronPigs hit the 20 win mark last night with a big 10 inning win at Louisville. Tuffy Gosewisch came through in the top of the 10th with a 2 strike, 2 out, 2 run double that gave the Pigs a 5-3 win. The bullpen came up big as it has all season with 5 scoreless innings of relief. Tyson Brummett pitched two perfect innings, Michael Schwimer got his second save in as many nights (4th overall to tie Aumont for team lead), Jeremy Horst got the W against his former team, and David Purcey tossed a scoreless 6th inning.

Dave Bush started and gave up 3 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings. Mike Spidale (1), Erik Kratz (4), and Andres Blanco (4) all hit solo home runs. Kratz (as a pinch hitter) and Blanco went back-to-back in the 7th to tie the game at 3.

Tug Hulett went 1 for 5 in his IronPigs debut.

There is rain in the forecast for today's game although it won't be as bad as expected. Assuming they get the game in, Austin Hyatt (2-3, 4.10) will try to get his first win since April 16. The Bats will send Sean Gallagher (1-3, 6.88) to the mound.

Domonic Brown
(Mitch Hyman/B&B)
There is a slight chance that Domonic Brown may return to the lineup this afternoon. Matt Provence said during the pregame show yesterday that the Phillies are waiting for him to be absolutely 100% before bringing him back. Brown is battling a hamstring issue that has kept him out since May 7. Overall in May Brown has only played in 4 games where he is 1 for 10 with the lone hit being a pinch-hit, two-run triple a week ago at Coca-Cola Park against Syracuse.

If you have a chance today, read this article on Rich Thompson by Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer. If not, read it tomorrow.

I think we (us fans) need to make a big push to get Richie called up at some point this season. At the very least he deserves a September call-up. He's the type of player the Phillies had a roster full of when they won the 2008 World Series. Considering how they're playing these days, the Phils could use more Rich Thompsons.
