Phillies Making Room For Ryno?

On the chance you missed it like I did (sort of speaks to the type of season it was), the Phillies' 2012 season officially came to an end this afternoon with a loss at Washington. Afterwards they wasted no time in making some changes. According to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly, coaches Greg Gross, Pete Mackanin, and Sam Perlozzo were all told they will not be back next season. I and everyone on Twitter all thought the same thing: Sandberg will be on the Phillies bench next season. In other words, to make it more relevant to this blog, he won't be the manager of the IronPigs in 2013.

The future of Ryno in Allentown was one of the topics I had planned on writing about before I lost track of time and disappeared for three weeks. I had a feeling - and I definitely wasn't alone in thinking this - that the Phillies were going to make some sort of gesture to show Sandberg they want him to be their future manager. This would appear to be that gesture.

Charlie's contract is up after next season and he's likely to retire. It would make sense to bring up Sandberg and let him take over. He's proven himself enough in the Minor Leagues and from what we know as fans, he has the respect of the players both on his own team and on the other side. As a Phils fan, I'm all for him taking over the reigns in 2014.

Keep in mind other Major League teams will be looking to hire Ryno this offseason to manage their team in 2013. I would think however that he would accept a base coach or bench coach position with the Phils next year in order to take over as manager in 2014.

Salisbury says that the team will talk more about next year's staff at a Thursday press conference.

Quick blog note...B&B will be back full-time very soon. To be honest there's not much news right now anyway.
