The Top 12 Moments of 2012: #5. Cloyd's Debut

5. Tyler Cloyd's Opening Day Spot Start (April 5)
Dave Bush was supposed to start Opening Day for the Pigs, but a late suspension stemming from an incident in Spring Training forced the Phillies to promote somebody named Tyler Cloyd from Reading to start in his place.

Cloyd pitched six perfect innings and got the W in a 3-0 Pigs victory over the Yankees. Cloyd (15-1, 2.26 ERA) would not only earn IL Pitcher of the Week honors the following Monday, he would become the winningest pitcher in franchise history, an All-Star, the IL Pitcher of the Year (led league in ERA and WHIP), an IL postseason All-Star, the Topps International League Player of the Year, winner of the Paul Owens Award (annually given to best pitcher and hitter in Phils Minor League system), and a call-up to Philadelphia in late August where he made six starts for the Phillies.
